Player activity

The games.gbandit.com catalog ranks games by weekly active users, counted from heartbeats that the gbandit runtime sends from your players' browsers. A game that doesn't load the runtime sends none, so it ranks last however many people play it.

Games scaffolded from the gbandit template already load the runtime. For any other game, add the tag in Loading it.

How players are counted

  • The runtime sends a heartbeat when the page loads and then about once a minute while the tab is visible, to POST /__gbandit/telemetry/heartbeat on your game's domain, as the player.
  • The platform decides everything else itself: which game, which player, and when. A game can't send its own counts.
  • Activity is credited only in prod. Heartbeats from dev are accepted and ignored.
  • A player counts toward the week once they have been active in at least two different minutes. Guests count too, but only two guests per network per game, so many players behind one address count as two.
  • Test users are never counted.

Catalog listing

A game is listed on games.gbandit.com once you publish it: promote it to prod, upload a cover image and run gbandit project publish (see Publishing to the catalog). No database is required, and heartbeats only affect ranking, never whether a game is listed.
